Otahuhu College Library
Our library is a busy space that encompasses a research/non-fiction area, a reading room and a mezzanine. Year 9 and Year 10 students attend a library class in the reading room once a week with their English teacher, in this time they read books of their own choice quietly. We encourage all of our students to issue books and our collection is continually developing. In doing so, we hope that that our students will continue to develop their literacy skills.
The non-fiction space is used by many different subject areas and there are laptops available for students to use.
During break times students are welcome to come and work quietly. We also host the Reading Club, the Writing Club and the Chess Club, and students of all year levels are encouraged to attend and focus on these pursuits. The library also hosts a termly creative writing competition.
The library is also one of the places that pivotal weeks in the school year are celebrated, such as: Samoan Language Week, Tongan Language Week, Cook Island Week, Pride Week and International Woman’s Day.
